What does a Fire Door Inspection involve?
Our Fire Door Inspectors check the entire fire door assembly, including the door, frame, supporting construction, architrave, glazing system, sealing system, and hardware items, ensuring compliance with current requirements. Our assessments verify if all components fitted to the door fall within the scope of the fire door test certificate and evaluate the system's ability to perform as intended during a fire.
-
Comprehensive Inspection:
Examining the entire assembly, including the door, frame, supporting construction, architrave, glazing system, sealing system, and hardware items to ensure proper preparation and fitting according to current requirements.
-
Compliance Verification:
Checking if the frame, architrave, glazing system, sealing system, and hardware items fitted to the door fall under the scope of the fire door test certificate.
-
Performance Evaluation:
Assessing whether the fire door system would perform as intended and as originally tested in the event of a fire, considering compatibility and performance characteristics of all components.
-
Knowledge of Compatible Components:
Possessing detailed knowledge of all possible compatible components and their associated performance standards, enabling informed judgments on system performance.
-
Understanding System Design and Function:
Recognising that a fire door system is more than just the door leaf, frame, self-closing device, and hinges, and understanding the role of each tested component in the overall system design and function.
-
Identification of Issues:
Documenting issues like incompatibility, improper installation, unsuitability, or any element detrimental to the fire and smoke control performance, providing recommendations for corrective action.

-
Empowering Fire Safety Compliance:
With over four decades of dedicated experience in the fire door industry, LFDC is your trusted partner in elevating fire safety standards. Our specialised focus on fire door inspections not only meets but surpasses industry standards. We go beyond the checklist, providing meticulous assessments and detailed reports to guide responsible persons effectively.

-
Minimising Disruption:
LFDC understands the importance of minimising disruption during inspections. The standard LFDC inspection is designed to be non-disruptive, requiring visual access to both sides of each fire door and, crucially, inspection of photographic or documentary evidence detailing the precise specification of the linear seal employed during installation.
LFDC do not currently offer intrusive/invasive inspections where, to inspect the linear seal, architraves are removed and re-installed – this would require the services of a joinery contractor with suitable insurance in place to carry out this work.
-
Response to Inspection Results:
If fire doors fail inspection, LFDC's services go beyond the inspection. Clients can choose their level of engagement: LFDC can offer recommendations for certified firms who can carry out repairs and/or replacement door assemblies, or establishing regular checks based on client needs and discussions with the Responsible Person for fire safety.
